At Tanfield School, we have high expectations. We aim for all students to achieve the knowledge that they need to progress to sixth form then University, or a high quality alternative, so that they can have the career of their dreams and a happy life. Homework is an important part of this journey.

Here is an overview of the regular homeworks that are set. Additional tasks may also be set occasionally. Homework is designed to embed knowledge in long term memory or support preparation for examinations. Tasks may also be an extension of the learning in class.

Please support your child in their organisation of this work. It is helpful if they have a quiet work area away from distractions and a routine for completing homework. Some of the tasks require computer access. There are computers in school should this not be possible at home.

Overview

Year 11 have fortnightly Progress Checks in their G.C.S.E subjects. Students are guided to learn specific nuggets of content to prepare for a timed progress check in lesson time. The nuggets are the G.C.S.E course broken down into sections to support guided revision and deliberate practice.

Subjects assign homework nuggets to drive progress and in preparation for GCSE examinations. The nuggets will include quizzing for retrieval practice. Additional homework will also be set which may be wider reading, practice examination questions, use of GCSEPod or other relevant tasks. Non-GCSE subjects will set homework in line with the course requirements.
