On October 20th 2022 the Department for Education published its provisional key stage 4 school performance data. We were absolutely delighted to see that our class of 2022 had achieved record results for Tanfield School. Our provisional progress 8 score was +0.39. This is up from -0.76 in 2019 (the last time performance tables were produced). As you can see on the graph below, this also puts us considerably above the national average of -0.03.

This figure is also significantly higher than the Local Authority average (-0.22) and is the third highest progress 8 score in Durham, just behind Sedgefield Community College (+0.57) and St.Leonard’s Catholic School (+0.47). This is quite the rise from 29th position in 2019!

We are also above the Local Authority and England averages for other headline measures.

The number of students gaining a grade 5 or above in English and Maths:

The attainment 8 score (which is a score based on how well pupils have performed in up to 8 qualifications):

The EBacc average points score (which is a score that calculates a student's average point score across the 5 pillars of the English Baccalaureate):

These results have been achieved through the hard work of all members of TeamTanfield and we are extremely proud of each and everyone of them.

Whilst we are pleased with these results, we know we can achieve more. We will continue to work relentlessly to achieve results that are the best in Durham and in the top 1% of schools nationally.
